Job Description SummaryThe Associate Director, Finance is a senior leadership role within the VPFO portfolio, providing strategic financial and business planning advice to the Portfolio Finance Director and senior management. This position oversees all aspects of financial management for Facilities , which delivers essential services—to the entire campus and South Campus neighborhoods, managing an annual operating budget of $approximately $90 million.
This role provides expert business acumen through influential leadership, broad advice, strategic understanding and operational guidance to senior management and staff (including the AVP, Executive Director, Directors, Associate Directors, and Managers). This includes providing department wide, high-level financial, budget and operational matters as well as developing, implementing, and overseeing financial services to the portfolio. This position requires advanced financial modeling, strategic analysis, and leadership to ensure sound financial stewardship across complex projects and operations.
Organizational Status- Reports to the Portfolio Finance Director, VPFO
- Directly supervises support staff and provides direction to Analysts
- Collaborates with senior leadership, Treasury Office, FP&A, Financial Services, IT Services, external agencies, and government bodies.
Work Performed- Serves as a strategic partner to the Portfolio Finance Director, providing advice on financial management across Facilities departments.
- Oversees financial operations for Facilities (Operations, Energy & Water, Capital Planning and Projects, etc )
- Leads complex financial modeling and analysis
- Monitors commodity markets (gas, water, electricity, steam, etc.) to manage risks and optimize cost strategies.
- Mentors analysts supporting Facilities, Operations, Energy & Water and Capital Planning and Projects
- Drives process improvements through business process reviews, policy development, and implementation of new financial systems and procedures.
- Prepares and oversees budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and strategic performance measures for all Facilities departments
- Advises senior leadership on financial, business, and control risks, ensuring sustainability and compliance.
- Represents departmental interests in negotiations related to financial management and resource allocation.
- Oversees business case analysis and preparation for facilities projects
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and manages staff, ensuring effective leadership and team development.
- Oversees the development and analysis of financial reports, financial models, summaries of results, and other operational strategic performance measures as required
- Oversees financial operations related to customer billing, A/P and A/R for various departments within Facilities (EWS, Maintenance, etc.)
- Performs other duties as required
