Job OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and reliable Backhoe Operator to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating heavy equipment, including backhoes, excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and other machinery essential for construction projects.
Operating tractor-loader-backhoes to excavate, trench, grade, and backfill, primarily in construction and utility projects. They conduct pre-operational inspections, maintain equipment, and work with crews to meet site specifications. The Backhoe Operator will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient completion of projects while adhering to safety standards and project specifications.
Duties- Operate backhoes and other heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and Caterpillar machinery to perform excavation, grading, paving, and site preparation tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Assist with horizontal drilling operations and other specialized construction tasks as needed.
- Load and unload materials, move earth, debris, or other materials around the construction site efficiently.
- Follow project plans and instructions from supervisors to execute tasks accurately.
- Maintain a clean work environment by adhering to safety protocols and proper equipment handling procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate activities and ensure timely project completion.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies during operation of heavy machinery.
Requirements- Proven experience operating backhoes, excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and similar heavy equipment in a construction setting.
- Mechanical knowledge related to heavy machinery maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Valid provincial driver’s license is typically required.
- Skills in horizontal drilling and paving are highly desirable.
- Ability to operate Caterpillar equipment or similar brands effectively.
- Strong understanding of construction processes and safety standards on job sites.
- Experience with heavy equipment operation including loader operation and grader operation is preferred.
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks associated with construction work including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Relevant certifications or training in heavy equipment operation is a plus.
