Role overview
The Business Systems Analyst bridges business needs and technology delivery across insurance systems, data, integrations, and vendor implementations. The role supports policy administration, underwriting, claims, billing, finance, and related operations.
Responsibilities
- Elicit, document, validate, and trace business, functional, technical, data, integration, and reporting requirements.
- Assess current and target systems, processes, data flows, integrations, controls, and operational impacts.
- Support Canadian insurance processes and regulatory, compliance, privacy, audit, and operational risk initiatives.
- Use SQL for data analysis, validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and reporting; support data mapping, migration, and conversion activities.
- Analyze APIs, batch processes, message flows, data feeds, and downstream reporting impacts.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, architects, QA, operations, and vendors on solution design and delivery.
- Define and review test scenarios and acceptance criteria, support SIT and UAT, and assist with defect triage and production investigations.
- Present findings and recommendations and manage stakeholder expectations.
Qualifications
- At least 6 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Systems Analyst, or technically oriented Business Analyst.
- 3 to 5 or more years of experience in Canadian insurance or a closely related regulated financial services environment.
- Experience with large system implementations, modernization, integrations, migrations, enhancements, or vendor platform projects.
- Strong SQL skills and knowledge of data mapping, databases, application architecture, APIs, and integration patterns.
- Experience with tools such as Databricks, SQL Server, JIRA, Confluence, Visio, and Excel. Guidewire, Duck Creek, or similar insurance platforms are preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in business, computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
Location and work arrangement
Toronto office at 390 Bay Street, with a hybrid model combining weekly in-office and remote days.
Compensation and benefits
Base salary is $119,000 to $139,000 per year, with an opportunity for an annual company bonus. Benefits include health and dental coverage, health and wellness spending accounts, a defined contribution pension plan, optional RRSP matching, paid time off, and learning and development resources.
