SUMMARYPiikani Child and Family Services (PCFS) is looking for a reliable, motivated candidate to join our team as a Caregiver Support Generalist. This role is responsible for monitoring and supporting Caregivers for Piikani Children Protection clients, the overall implementation and delivery of the Piikani Children’s Placement Resources Program in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and other relevant Provincial legislation, and established Piikani policies and procedures. The Service Assessor is responsible for the implementation and delivery of the Piikani Child and Family Services Program in accordance with Piikani culture and traditions incorporated by the agency.
WORKING CONDITIONSThis is a full-time, 1 year term position with PCFS with opportunity for contract extensions. The regular hours of work will be 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday, with occasional standby on-call requirements after hours. This job requires frequent travel, typically in the Southern Alberta region. The starting wage is $31.97 per hour. A benefits package will be provided after a successful probation period of 90 days.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Intake & Assessment- Participate in intake duties as assigned
- Screen reports and assess levels of risk
- Assess family strengths and child resiliency
- Gather collateral information to determine intervention needs as per CYFEA
- Address guardianship and custody requirements
- Document assessments using required templates and input into the Child Intervention Database
- Consult with and submit documentation to the Caseworker Supervisor
Caregiver Support & Supervision- Provide ongoing support, leadership, and supervision to kinship and foster caregivers
- Process and maintain records of caregiver expenses
- Support caregivers during crisis situations
- Evaluate recruitment, retention, and advocacy concerns for caregivers
- Ensure caregiver homes meet licensing standards and prepare licensing packages
- Participate in team meetings and review licensing compliance, home safety assessments, and placement issues
- Liaise with the Child Protection team and support coordination across departments
- Assist caregivers with understanding and navigating policies and responsibilities
- Provide cultural support in alignment with Piikani values and traditions
Ongoing Case Management- Document all actions related to child intervention cases as per CYFEA
- Maintain ongoing communication and documentation with the Caseworker Supervisor
- Ensure face-to-face and other contact standards with children and caregivers are met
- Assess risk and make timely decisions to ensure child safety and wellbeing
- Organize and provide transportation for children/youth and caregivers as needed
- Support conflict resolution between family members
- Involve extended family and support networks to promote permanency planning
- Provide direct caregiver support and monitor home environments
- Complete Delegation training and become familiar with Home Assessment Reports
- Work after-hours on-call shifts as part of a team rotation
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
- Knowledge and skill in the area of family violence and best practices in human services.
- Knowledge of community resources and ability to facilitate professional relationships with external agencies.
- Experience working within a case management framework.
- Working knowledge of trauma informed practices.
- Ability to resolve conflict, maintain control in crisis situations and restore calm after crisis.
- Familiarity with Blackfoot language and Piikani culture is considered an asset.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Current clean Criminal Record Check.
- Current clean Child Intervention Check.
