ABOUT THE POSITION:The Support Staff is someone who has an understanding of addiction and co-occurring disorders and is comfortable in dealing with residents in cases where they may need to help de-escalate and stabilize residents. A professional demeanor and the ability to communicate effectively with residents, family members, referents, and co-workers are required. The ability to maintain confidentiality of information is essential.
YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Provides administrative support as needed to the front desk, admissions or discharge.
- Provides day to day support to residents as needed (eg recreational activities). Responsible for being the eyes and ears of the clinical team while on property.
- Responsible for assisting with programming on the weekend when clinical team is lean.
- May assist with other areas including food service or security.
- Communicate any new developments of residents with the clinical team.
- Communicates on a regular basis with referents and other members of the resident’s recovery team.
- Ensures the safety for the residents. Uses effective behavior management skills to de-escalate crisis situations and minimize harm to residents and other staff.
- Maintain communications/contact with all clinical staff regarding resident issues, through exchanges of information, as appropriate via verbal, written and electronic communication.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:- Post Secondary where a degree or diploma in addictions would be considered an asset.
- One to 3 years clinical experience ideally dealing with addiction/mental health, or Training in a related health field preferred.
- Experience in working and being part of a team, ideally within a healthcare setting.
- There is no history of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three years before employment and does not display evidence of misuse of alcohol or drugs while employed.
- Must have the ability to be objective and empathetic while addressing the individual needs of the respective patients, referral sources and family members.
- Must have the ability to provide support and de-escalation under stressful or crisis situations. Ability to problem-solve and to meet deadlines and establish and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Must demonstrate ethical behavior and sound judgment that supports the Trafalgar standards of care.
