Position Summary:The Crane Truck Operator is responsible for operating Lumberworld’s crane truck and other vehicles in a safe, efficient, and professional manner to deliver building materials—including drywall, steel, insulation, lumber, and related products—to residential, commercial, and industrial job sites. This role is essential to providing a positive delivery experience for both contractor and retail customers across the greater Victoria area.

Performance Objectives:- Operate Lumberworld’s crane truck and HIAB crane safely and professionally in accordance with BC Association for Crane Safety standards, delivering building materials (drywall, steel, insulation, lumber, and more) to residential, commercial, and industrial job sites; ensure proper securing of cargo during transport and at worksites
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; complete daily truck inspection reports and mileage logs; notify management of any required repairs or maintenance
- Unload, protect, move, and stage materials as directed by customers in compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations; apply correct handling techniques for various products (e.g. chains vs. slings)
- Maintain cell and/or radio contact with the Yard Manager throughout the day; communicate proactively with customers and other trades on job sites to resolve issues as they arise
- Process truck logs, record materials and supplies transported, and complete all required paperwork accurately; verify load security and accuracy prior to departure
- Operate the vehicle in a safe and courteous manner, following all rules of the road; ensure driver’s license and all equipment qualifications are current and on file
- Assist with drywall packing when required
- Assist in the yard or warehouse when not on deliveries; be friendly and courteous to all customers and staff; assume other duties as assigned by the Yard Manager or management
Capabilities/Key Competencies:- Knowledge of highway safety, risk management, and HIAB crane operations; ability to assess job site conditions (power lines, soil, embankments, underground utilities) before operating
- Strong eye-hand coordination, depth perception, and fine motor dexterity for precise crane remote control operation; knowledge of correct handling techniques for varied building materials (e.g. chains vs. slings)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; professional demeanor and appearance; customer satisfaction-oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail; ability to enter, transcribe, and maintain accurate written and computer records; solid problem-solving and organizational skills

Education and Experience:- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid HIAB/Crane Certification Class A and Class 1 or 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement required.
- Minimum 2 years of professional driving experience with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Prior experience operating crane trucks in a delivery or construction setting strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of building materials and familiarity
