CSJ Summer Starfish Program Assistant/Community Service Worker

Wage: $19.00 per hour

Full Time: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, some evening or weekend work may be required.

Temporary 8-week position, summer job through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program

One position starting late May and the second position starting Late June 2025

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs, which has certain requirements and encourages the hiring of youth with disabilities, Indigenous, Black, other racialized youth, and youth in the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

Youth must meet the following criteria:

• Must be between the ages of 16 and 30, at the time of their start of employment at Archway.
• Must be a Canadian citizen, immigrant with permanent residency status, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
• NOTE: International students are not eligible for this program.

The Canada Summer Jobs program objectives are to:

• provide quality experiences for youth;
• respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers to employment, i.e., youth who are early leavers of high school; not in employment, education or training; are underemployed; Black, and other racialized youth; youth with disabilities; Indigenous youth; 2SLGBTQ+ youth;
• provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills.

Job Summary:

The CSJ Summer Starfish Program Assistant / Community Service worker for the Starfish Pack Program with the Food Bank, will support the Starfish Pack Program Coordinator to distribute weekly food hampers, and assist in planning and updating the menus for the Back-to-School Starfish Pack Backpack Program for the fall. The CSJ Summer Starfish Program Assistant / Community Service Worker will also support food distribution activities for Food Bank operations and Archway events.

The Settlement Worker and Employment Specialist will assist clients with settlement services, access to labour market information and support, and refer for counselling, where appropriate. Further, the Settlement Worker and Employment Specialist will be responsible for marketing and promoting the program to prospective employers in order to seek job opportunities for program clients.

Your Role:

Archway’s CSJ Starfish Pack Program Assistant/Community Service Worker with the Starfish Pack Program of the Food Bank contributes by:

• Communicating with schools, volunteers, and all Starfish parents/caregivers by phone, e-mail, and in person.
• Contacting all Starfish Pack locations to provide support for the Program.
• Drafting communication messages for newsletters and Archway’s website about the Starfish Pack Program.
• Assisting in registering and onboarding all clients, Starfish Pack locations, and participating schools for the summer Starfish Pack food hampers.
