L'Arche Toronto is seeking an energetic, mature, compassionate individual who is willing to be with and work alongside individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. Location:We currently have five L’Arche homes in East Toronto where people with and without disabilities live together.
We also run 3 programs for adults with disabilities: Sol Express, Trying It On For Size (TIFS) and an internal Daytime Program. We have a main office, the Gathering Place, located in East York where our administration team works and community gatherings happen. Simpson House is located at Broadview Ave. and Gerrard St. E.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:- In collaboration with other team members, support the physical, psychological, spiritual, and health and safety needs of Core Members in the home.
- Follow the behavioural protocols, Behavioural Support Plans (BSPs) and PRN protocols as outlined for the well-being of each core member.
- Respond to Core Member’s individual needs by respectfully supporting them with their daily living skills and personal hygiene.
- Administer medication as prescribed by a physician and adhering to all community practices regarding medication administration.
- Accompany Core Members to appointments and activities outside of the home.
- Assist Core Members in building skills in areas as agreed upon during annual reviews/goal setting.
- Share with other team members in daily housekeeping chores to ensure that the home is safe, clean, well-managed and welcoming to all. This includes cleaning, shopping, cooking, driving, laundry, minor repairs and vehicle maintenance, etc.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration with other team members, being open to giving and receiving feedback and being willing to resolve any tensions and conflicts which may arise.
- Support and respect the schedule, priorities, routines and traditions of the home as outlined by the House Manager.
- Ensure the completion of all necessary documentation in a timely and competent way, including medical forms, daily journals, reporting forms, etc.
- Foster good stewardship and appropriate use of the resources and property of the home and community, including vehicles, computers, telephone, utilities, budget, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date training requirements, as requested by the HR department.
- Understand and adhere to all L’Arche community standards, policies and procedures.
Qualifications:- An educational background in Developmental Services (DSW), Social Services (SSW), or Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and/or 2+ years of experience in the Developmental Services Sector (is an asset).
- A valid G driver’s license with 3 or more years of driving experience (is an asset).
- Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability to be flexible and manage the stress of multi-faceted responsibilities and management
- Ability to remain calm, focused and clear in times of crisis.
- Ability to take direction and follow-through on commitments in timely fashion.
- Capable of safely performing physical tasks involved in supporting individuals, including the ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, reach and lift up to 20 kg, assisting with wheelchair use and transfers.
- Experience in supporting adults with disabilities that rely on non-verbal forms of communication, such as: Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Social Stories and/or Proloquo2Go application an asset.
