About the Next Gen InstituteThe Next Gen Institute (NGI) is a Canadian nonprofit initiative focused on equipping young Canadians with essential knowledge in personal finance, government finance, and civic responsibility.
NGI develops modular, curriculum-aligned educational resources designed for direct classroom use in courses such as CALM, Social Studies, Civics, and Economics. Each module includes a short-form educational video, student workbook, teacher guide, curriculum mapping aligned to provincial standards, and assessment materials.
All resources are provided free of charge to educators across Canada, beginning with a 2026 pilot launch in Alberta.
Position OverviewNGI is seeking an Educational Content Developer to lead the creation of classroom-ready learning materials that are both engaging and aligned with provincial curriculum standards.
This is an education-first role. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating curriculum outcomes into clear, compelling content for students and teachers, while also contributing to the creative direction of short-form educational media.
This position is well-suited for individuals with a background in education, including current or recent B.Ed students, teachers, or those with experience in curriculum development who are interested in digital learning and content creation.
Key ResponsibilitiesCurriculum & Learning Design- Translate provincial curriculum outcomes into structured, student-friendly learning materials
- Collaborate with curriculum consultants to ensure alignment with education standards
- Contribute to the development of student workbooks, teacher guides, and assessment materials
- Support curriculum mapping and documentation for classroom integration
Educational Content Development- Develop scripts and visual ideas for 5-minute educational videos
- Build lesson plans and slide decks for teachers
- Break down complex topics in finance, government, and economics into clear, engaging explanations
- Ensure all content is accurate, age-appropriate, and non-partisan
- Use AI tools to support research, drafting, and content refinement
Creative Direction & Production Coordination- Define the educational approach and narrative structure of video content
- Work with production consultants to execute video concepts
- Maintain consistency in tone, clarity, and instructional quality
- Manage timelines from concept to final delivery
Digital Publishing & Distribution- Support publishing of modules on the NGI website
- Organize content for ease of use by educators
- Apply basic SEO best practices to improve discoverability
- Assist in content distribution across digital platforms and track performance
Qualifications- Background in education, marketing, curriculum development, design, or a related field strongly preferred
- Flexible Hours - Not a fixed 9-5
- Strong ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively
- Interest in education, public policy, personal finance, or economics
- Experience with content creation, writing, or media production is an asset
- Familiarity with AI tools for research or content development is an asset
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage projects independently
Compensation & Structure- Part-time, with potential to transition into full-time
- Remote within Canada or based in Edmonton
- Opportunity to grow into a larger role as NGI expands nationally
- $20.00 to $30.00 per hour, based on experience
