About the RoleWestside Montessori School is seeking a warm, capable, and collaborative Elementary teacher to join our growing school community beginning September 2026.
The successful candidate will guide students within a mixed-age Elementary environment while fostering academic growth, independence, curiosity, and positive social development. This educator will prepare and maintain a structured and engaging learning environment grounded in Montessori philosophy while planning and delivering instruction guided by the BC Curriculum and supported through Montessori materials and lessons.
The role involves using whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction to support student learning and development, observing and documenting student progress using proficiency-based assessment practices, and differentiating instruction to support a wide range of learning profiles and diverse student needs. The successful candidate will support neurodiverse learners through responsive, flexible, and relationship-based teaching practices while maintaining strong communication and partnerships with families.
Educators at WMS work collaboratively with colleagues and actively participate in school events, meetings, extracurricular activities, and professional learning opportunities.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Education
- Valid British Columbia teaching certification, or eligibility to teach in British Columbia
- Ages 6-12 Montessori Elementary certification (AMI, AMS, MACTE, or equivalent)
- Experience teaching Elementary-aged students and/or within mixed-age classroom environments
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience- Strong knowledge of the BC Curriculum and proficiency-based assessment practices
- Strong understanding of child development, Montessori philosophy, and inclusive educational practices
- Experience planning and delivering whole-group, small-group, and individualized learning opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and assessment to support a wide range of learners
- Experience supporting neurodiverse students through flexible, responsive, and relationship-based teaching practices
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills related to Montessori lesson planning, assessment, student progress monitoring, and tracking individualized next steps
- Ability to maintain detailed documentation of lessons, observations, and student learning progression
- Strong classroom management, communication, and parent partnership skills
- Collaborative, flexible, and supportive team player
- Commitment to inquiry-based and project-based learning approaches
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice
