SummaryThe Powerline Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for pre-construction estimating, project planning, execution, and close out of overhead and underground powerline projects. This role combines office based estimating and project management with periodic field work and requires close collaboration with the Project Manager – Underground Division to ensure coordinated project delivery, accurate pricing, and seamless execution across
Responsibilities- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and utility standards
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for overhead and underground powerline projects
- Perform quantity take‑offs and productivity analysis
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Identify risks, assumptions, and exclusions
- Work collaboratively with the Project Manager – Underground Division to ensure scope alignment, shared resources, and coordinated pricing where projects overlap
- Participate in bid reviews and negotiations
- Plan, execute, and close projects in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget
- Develop and manage project schedules, work plans, and sequencing
- Coordinate with field supervisors, foremen, and construction crews
- Monitor costs, track progress, and manage change orders
- Review and approve project costs, time sheets, and invoices
- Conduct field visits and site inspections as required
- Coordinate work plans, schedules, and interfaces with the Project Manager – Underground Division to support integrated project delivery
- Chair or participate in project meetings with clients, utilities, and internal stakeholders
- Field work may be required, including travel to active construction sites
- Attend site walks, pre‑job meetings, and progress reviews
- Assess site conditions, access constraints, and productivity
- Support field leadership with planning, issue resolution, and technical clarification
- Work closely with Leads to mentor and develop apprentices
- Ensure compliance with OH&S regulations, company policies, and utility standards
- Participate in safety planning, hazard assessments, and incident investigations
- Promote a strong safety culture across office and field teams and between divisions
- Act as a primary point of contact during assigned projects
- Support coordination between overhead, underground, and utility stakeholders
- Assist in resolving client concerns quickly and professionally
- Ability to accurately report project performance with internal management/stakeholders
QualificationsRequired:- Minimum 10+ years of experience in powerline construction (overhead and/or underground) in an equivalent position
- Experience in estimating and/or project management
- Strong understanding of powerline construction methods and utility standards
- Ability and willingness to perform field work and coordinate with parallel project teams, including the Underground Division
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Proficiency with Excel and construction estimating/project management software
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to attain clearances for Defence Canada
Preferred:- Journeyman Powerline Technician (PLT)
- Construction Management or Engineering diploma / degree
- Gold Seal, PMI, or equivalent certification
- Alberta Utility experience
Work Environment- Working outdoors in varying environmental conditions
- Travelling to various work sites, including remote areas
- General Office duties
- After hours response calls
