About the role
The Executive Director, Clean Energy is the Department’s senior executive lead for electricity, renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, and related non-petroleum energy matters. The role leads clean energy policy, planning, regulation, programs, and implementation in support of a reliable, affordable, and lower-carbon energy system for Nova Scotians.
Key responsibilities
- Lead clean energy policy, planning, regulatory approaches, programs, and implementation across electricity, renewables, energy efficiency, demand-side management, and sustainable transportation.
- Develop and implement clean energy strategies, plans, legislation, regulatory frameworks, and funding initiatives.
- Lead the Department’s work on utility-sector issues, regulatory proceedings, electricity market design, governance, and utility accountability.
- Advise the Deputy Minister, Minister, Cabinet, and central agencies on clean energy issues, risks, trade-offs, and implementation.
- Build relationships with utilities, regulators, industry, other governments, Indigenous peoples, municipalities, communities, and other partners.
- Sponsor major initiatives and manage Branch resources, including budgets, workforce, performance, and team development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10 or more years of senior-level strategic related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A Master’s degree is an asset.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and working with industry, utilities, communities, municipalities, regulators, and other governments.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, climate change, greenhouse-gas reduction, and government decision-making.
- Strong leadership, communication, consultation, and relationship-building skills.
Working conditions and benefits
Mostly office-based, with occasional travel and meetings in Nova Scotia and other provinces. The Government of Nova Scotia offers a defined-benefit pension plan, health and dental insurance, disability coverage, vacation, and employee and family assistance programs.
Salary: $5,805.06–$7,256.31 biweekly.
