Hestia is hiring Family Assistants to join our launch team in Oakville. If you've been the person who naturally keeps things running — at work, at home, or for the families you've supported — this might be the role you didn't know was a category.
Family Assistants are the people who keep busy households moving smoothly. You handle the day-to-day logistics that pile up when both parents work — errands, organizing, light meal prep, school drop-offs and pickups, the small projects that never quite get done. You're not a cleaner. You're not a nanny. You're the person a family relies on to keep the rhythm of their home steady.
You don't need prior "Family Assistant" experience.
Many of our best applicants come from:- Career nannies looking for broader scope as their charges age into school
- Hospitality and service backgrounds (front-of-house, event coordination, catering)
- Stay-at-home parents re-entering the workforce
- Personal assistants and administrative professionals
- Professional organizers and home-staging specialists
If you're someone who notices what needs doing without being asked, this role is built for you.
What the work looks like:Errands and logistics
- Grocery runs, pharmacy pickups, dry cleaning, returns, and family errands
- Coordination with delivery services, contractors, and service providers
- School pickups and drop-offs (when applicable)
Household support
- Tidying, light organization, laundry, and dishes
- Light meal prep — chopping, marinating, prepping ingredients for dinner
- Inventory and restocking of household essentials
Family coordination
- Tracking school calendars, activity schedules, and family commitments
- Managing the small projects that pile up: closet refreshes, seasonal swaps, organizing the medicine cabinet
- Coordinating with cleaners, repair people, and other vendors when scheduled
What we look for:- Someone who notices what's running low before anyone has to mention it
- Calm under pressure, organized when the day gets messy
- Clear communicator with families, vendors, and the Hestia team
- Discretion — you'll be inside someone's home and family life
- Comfortable with calendar apps, family chat tools, and basic household tech
- A self-starter who anticipates instead of waiting to be told
What makes Hestia different — for you:We vet families before we match them with you. Every Hestia family completes an intake process before any placement happens. We require written scope agreements, so you know exactly what you've agreed to do — and what you haven't.
We never charge you to access leads, see messages, or get matched. Your starting hourly rate is set before you meet your first family. No negotiating, no marketplace race to the bottom.
Hestia keeps a small percentage of the membership fee. Families pay through the platform — you never chase invoices, handle Venmo, or have awkward conversations about money.
Compensation:Hourly rate: $25-30/hour. Most Family Assistants build a portfolio of 1-3 families over time, creating consistent income and real relationships rather than one-off gigs.
Hours and availability:We match Family Assistants with families based on your availability. Most of our roles are 6-15 hours per week per family. You set your availability. We match accordingly.
Required:All Hestia Family Assistants complete a background check, reference check, and interview before being matched with families. Hestia covers the cost of vetting.
A note on what we're building:Hestia exists because household work has been undervalued and unrecognized for too long. We're building the first Canadian platform that treats this work like the profession it actually is — with vetted families, real contracts, and pay that reflects the skill of the work.
