Job OverviewWe are looking for a skilled and reliable Excavation Heavy Equipment Operator / Foreman to join our team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can operate equipment while taking charge of the crew and keeping daily operations running smoothly. You’ll be working directly with the Project Manager to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, understands excavation and site development, and can step up as a leader on-site.
Key Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, loaders, and other machinery
- Lead and supervise crew members, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard
- Coordinate with truck drivers for hauling, loading, and site movement to keep operations flowing smoothly
- Perform excavation tasks such as trenching, grading, ditching, backfilling, and site prep
- Read and follow blueprints, site plans, and grade specifications
- Work closely with the Project Manager to plan daily tasks and meet project goals
- Oversee daily site operations and adjust workflow as needed to stay on schedule
- Enforce safety standards and maintain a safe, organized job site
- Conduct equipment checks, handle basic maintenance, and report any issues
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and project specifications
- Assist with layout and grade control (GPS/machine control experience is an asset)
- Manage site logistics including materials, equipment placement, and coordination with other trades
- Train and support crew members, setting expectations and maintaining accountability
- Complete daily reports and communicate progress, issues, or delays
Requirements- Proven experience operating excavators, skid steers, and other heavy equipment
- Previous foreman or crew leadership experience in excavation or construction
- Strong understanding of site work, grading, and excavation practices
- Ability to read and interpret plans and elevations
- Solid knowledge of job site safety standards and procedures
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Valid equipment operator certifications/licences (preferred)
- Experience with GPS/machine control systems is an asset
