Job OverviewImproving Lives Respite Services operates a group home for adults with developmental disabilities near Beeton, just West of Bradford. The house accommodates eight residents plus support staff requiring nutritious and delicious meals. The job is forty hours per week, straight days with no nights or weekends.
This full time position requires an experienced cook who can:
- shop and purchase fresh ingredients by ordering online or in person
- prepare meals for special diets, like gluten free, diabetic or low fat diets
- minimize waste and spoilage
- prepare extra entrees for weekend dining
- clean up after meals and maintain a monthly cleaning program of all stoves, fridges and freezers, and daily cleaning of microwave and counters
- keep records including food inventories, refrigerator temperatures and cleaning schedules
You must have a clear police record and prove the same with a vulnerable sector police clearance and have a current safe food handler certificate. You must be also able to work in a sometimes noisy environment with residents who have developmental disabilities and other challenges.
Wages are commensurate with experience, starting at $24-26/hr. and benefits (dental, drug, and healthcare), vacation pay, stat holiday pay and other entitlements. All are fully paid by the company after a probationary period is successfully completed.

- Support team members during busy service periods to ensure smooth operations
- Restock supplies as needed to ensure the kitchen is well-equipped for daily operations
- Maintain temperature and other logs
Skills- Previous experience in serving or food preparation is preferred.
- Knowledge of food handling safety standards and practices
- Ability to cook and prepare a variety of dishes with consistency and quality
- Strong understanding of kitchen operations, including meal preparation techniques
- Excellent tolerance for a sometimes noisy environment with our group home residents
- Ability to work efficiently
- Shopping for food and supplies efficiently
- Good communication skills and teamwork orientation
- Basic knowledge of the food industry standards and safety regulations
