THE ROLEStrive is working with a reputable company on a search for a HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC - SHOP LEAD. In this role, you’ll be responsible for diagnosing and repairing a variety of construction equipment, including earth-moving, compaction, aerial, and forklift machinery. This is a permanent opportunity for someone who works well independently, has strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills, and enjoys a fast-paced, on-the-go work environment. Based out of Etobicoke, you’ll primarily be on the road responding to client service calls. A minimum of 5 years’ experience with heavy-duty construction equipment is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of construction equipment (including earthmoving, aerial, and compact equipment). Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to identify root causes
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other technicians, including apprentices and new hires.
- Take the lead on challenging repairs as a senior technician
- Coordinate with the Branch Manager and Parts and Service Coordinator on workflow, parts ordering, and equipment readiness
- Test the machinery post-repair to ensure optimal performance and safety
- Provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating with clients and supporting their equipment needs
- Accurately complete service records, maintenance logs, and work orders
- Promote all health and safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment
- Foster a positive, collaborative shop environment focused on teamwork and continuous improvement.
REQUIREMENTS:- 5 years of mechanical experience, ideally servicing a variety of heavy construction equipment
- 421A or 310T certifications is an asset
- High degree of mechanical aptitude – able to diagnose problems and identify practical fixes.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components
- Leadership skills - able to effectively train, guide and support apprentices and other technicians, contributing to a safe and positive work environment.
- Valid G-Class driver’s license with a clean or satisfactory driving record
- Fully equipped with a complete set of tools, or actively working toward it
- Willing to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation as needed
- Proficient with diagnostic software and modern repair tools
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Clear communicator with strong verbal and written skills, and a customer-focused mindset
