The IT Specialist will be responsible for managing and supporting all aspects of the organisation's IT infrastructure, systems, and user support. This role will act as a key gatekeeper for IT security, ensuring systems and data are protected through proactive monitoring and best practices.
Given the dynamic nature of our operations, the successful candidate must be comfortable working with incomplete or evolving technical specifications and be able to assess needs, identify gaps, and recommend effective solutions.
This role may require occasional travel between company sites or project locations to provide hands-on support and ensure consistency across all operations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide remote and onsite technical support across the full employee life cycle (on boarding, ongoing support, off boarding)
- Maintain and manage IT infrastructure across multiple business units, including servers, networks, hardware, and cloud environments.
- Oversee installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of software, systems, and applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner to minimise operational disruptions.
- Monitor system performance and implement improvements to optimise efficiency, scalability, and security.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls across systems and platforms.
- Perform regular system backups and ensure disaster recovery protocols are in place and tested.
- Develop, implement, and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards across all companies.
- Act as the primary point of contact for IT security, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, vulnerabilities, and threats.
- Assess IT needs across departments and companies, including identifying missing specifications, unclear requirements, or gaps in current systems.
- Recommend and implement technology solutions that align with business goals and operational needs.
- Provide hands-on technical support and training to staff to ensure effective use of systems and tools.
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of systems, processes, and configurations.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices to support continuous improvement.
Skills & Qualifications- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in IT administration, systems support, or a similar role (experience supporting multiple business units is an asset).
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, cloud services, and hardware.
- Experience troubleshooting a wide range of technical issues (hardware, software, networking).
- Working knowledge of cyber-security principles, tools, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to identify gaps in technical specifications and independently develop practical solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft, or similar) are considered an asset.
