Your Role:Reporting to the Manager, Wellness and Health Promotion, the Injury Prevention Consultant supports a range of injury prevention and workplace safety initiatives, including, but not limited to contributing to the coordination and ongoing enhancement of Niagara Health's Safe Patient Handling Program. This role collaborates with clinical and non-clinical teams to promote safe, consistent, and evidence-based patient handling practices, reduce workplace injury risk, and support employee wellness, recovery and sustainable work practices.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver training and provide ongoing support to employees and leaders to ensure safe, consistent and effective patient handling practices across all clinical areas
- Provide education on topics including, but not limited to mobility assessments, general patient handling guidelines, safe lifting, transferring and repositioning techniques
- Support the development of safe and sustainable return-to-work plans in collaboration with Employee Health and Abilities, leaders, staff and union partners
- Complete Physical Demands Analyses (PDA) and Cognitive Demands Analyses (CDA) to support accommodation, return-to-work, and injury prevent initiatives
- Perform ergonomic assessments for both clinical and non-clinical staff and provide recommendations to reduce risk or injury and improve workplace safety
- Act as a subject matter expert and resource to leaders and staff on safe patient handling, ergonomics, and injury prevention practices
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends, risks, and opportunities related to workplace injury prevention and employee wellness
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or a related field
- Registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario or membership with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) would be considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience working within a healthcare or clinical environment
- Strong applied knowledge of biomechanics, particularly as it relates to patient handling, mobility, and injury prevention
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality customer service in a patient-centred environment
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with sound judgment and critical thinking
- Ability to apply problem-solving and decision-making skills in dynamic clinical or operational situations
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interprofessional team
- Flexible, self-directed, and able to manage workload with minimal supervision
- Experience working with geriatric and/or bariatric patient populations would be considered an asset
- Experience with providing education or training is preferred
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle
