About the RoleReliance Foundry is moving its IT and end-user support in-house and we're looking for an experienced IT generalist to manage our network on a part-time basis — roughly 20 to 25 hours per week.
This is an ideal role for a seasoned IT professional who has spent a career building, fixing, and supporting small-business technology environments and is now looking for a steady, lower-intensity engagement. You won't be managing anyone, sitting in strategy meetings, or chasing a promotion track. You'll be doing the work: keeping the network healthy, helping people when their printer won't print, and making sure the environment is in good shape week to week.
We are a roughly 30–50-person manufacturing and supply-chain company. The environment is straightforward: Microsoft 365, SonicWall firewall, a mix of Windows and Mac endpoints, NetSuite, SolidWorks, the usual office and warehouse hardware. Nothing exotic — just a real business that needs someone reliable to take care of it.
Reports ToSchedule & Location- 20–25 hours per week, on-site at our Surrey office (Unit 207 – 6450 148th Street).
- Days and hours are flexible and can be set during onboarding — we're open to a Mon/Wed/Fri pattern, four shorter days, or whatever works for both sides, provided coverage is consistent and predictable.
- In emergency situations some flexibility may be required to address urgent needs.
- Some flexibility for occasional remote work once the environment is well in hand.
- No regular after-hours or on-call duties. Vacation and sick coverage is handled internally by other staff.
What You'll DoDay-to-day support- Be the go-to person for IT questions: laptops, printers, scanners, phones, video conferencing, Microsoft 365, the usual.
- Work the ticket queue — typical volume is around 80 tickets/month, of which most are quick fixes and recurring alerts.
- Onboard new hires (laptop, accounts, MFA, licenses) and offboard cleanly when people leave.
- Help out on the warehouse floor when something goes sideways with a label printer, scanner, or shop-floor PC.
Keep the environment healthy- Administer Microsoft 365 — Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive — at the level of day-to-day user, license, and storage management.
- Look after the SonicWall firewall, switches, Wi-Fi, VPN, and MFA. Make changes when needed; don't break things that are already working.
- Keep an eye on monitoring alerts and act on the ones that matter (low disk, high CPU, storage thresholds, backup failures).
- Verify backups actually work. Patch endpoints. Maintain a basic inventory of hardware, licenses, and credentials.
Quietly improve things- Reduce recurring noise — for example, our SharePoint tenant has been throwing a "98% full" alert every day or two; that should get fixed, not re-acknowledged.
- Tighten up security basics: MFA coverage, conditional access, phishing awareness, cyber-insurance questionnaire responses.
- Document the environment as you go, so the next person (or a backup MSP) can pick it up without a treasure hunt.
- Manage relationships with our outside vendors — ISP, telephony, hardware suppliers — and pull in specialist help when something is genuinely outside scope.
Who We're Looking ForHonestly, we're looking for someone who has done this kind of work for a long time and is good at it. Specifically:
- 15+ years of hands-on IT experience, including time as the primary IT person for a small or mid-sized business.
- Comfortable being a generalist — you've administered Microsoft 365 (or Exchange/AD before that), configured firewalls and VPNs, supported users on Windows and Mac, set up printers that don't want to be set up, and traced down the occasional weird network issue.
Practical networking knowledge: TCP/IP,
