We are seeking an experienced Manager of Safety & Compliance to oversee safety programs and regulatory compliance for a commercial trucking fleet operating across Ontario and the United States.
This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that drivers, vehicles, and operations comply with all applicable transportation regulations while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations, along with hands-on experience managing fleet compliance programs, driver safety initiatives, and regulatory audits.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the organization’s safety and regulatory compliance programs for a commercial trucking fleet operating within Ontario and cross-border into the U.S.
- Ensure compliance with MTO, CVOR, NSC standards, FMCSA, DOT, and cross-border transportation regulations
- Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) compliance, ELD systems, and driver log auditing
- Manage driver qualification files, abstracts, medical documentation, training records, and compliance documentation
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and standard operating practices
- Conduct internal safety audits and compliance reviews and prepare for regulatory inspections
- Investigate accidents, incidents, cargo claims, and safety violations, implementing corrective actions when required
- Lead driver safety training programs, orientations, and ongoing education initiatives
- Track and analyze fleet safety metrics, identifying opportunities to reduce collisions, violations, and injuries
- Manage CVOR performance, safety ratings, and intervention strategies
- Oversee compliance related to cargo securement, including specialized securement for glass transport and flatbed operations
- Ensure adherence to load securement standards for open-deck freight
- Support insurance and claims processes, including documentation and root-cause analysis
- Lead driver recruitment and screening, including interviews, reference checks, and regulatory qualification verification
- Manage driver onboarding, orientation, and compliance training
- Collaborate with operations, dispatch, and maintenance teams to ensure safety integration with daily operations
- Maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, enforcement agencies, and industry associations
- Prepare safety and compliance reports for senior leadership
Qualifications- 5+ years of safety and compliance experience in the trucking or transportation industry
- Strong knowledge of Ontario MTO regulations, CVOR requirements, and NSC standards
- In-depth understanding of U.S. DOT, FMCSA, and cross-border transportation compliance
- Experience managing Hours of Service (HOS), ELD systems, and driver log auditing
- Experience managing driver qualification files and onboarding compliance
- Proven experience with accident investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning
- Familiarity with cargo securement standards, particularly for flatbed and glass transportation
