Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and friendly individual to join our team at Grand Forks Farmers' Market. The ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to problem solve creatively. As a market assistant, your primary role is to assist in the day-to-day operations of the bi-weeky market. The individual taking on this role will work closely with the market manager. Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and vendors
• Ensure smooth setup and takedown of market days
• Assist market vendors, customers, and market manager
• Coordinate the biweekly farmers market including market booth management, and must be visible and available during market operations
• Manage Market communications, including responding to market inquiries and media requests in a timely manner
• Market promotion, including signage, posters and social media.
• Manage vendors; ensure compliance to market rules and health regulations
• Coordinate musicians, special events, activities and or programs at the market

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in customer service, preferably in retail or food service
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated with an ability to work with and serve the community
• Proficient computer and social media skills
• Passionate about local food systems and markets

Typical Market Duties:

• Sweep the cement and laneway
• Clean up garbage and deer droppings
• Put up signs and barricades
• Set up GFFM tents and tables
• Direct vendors to their allocated booth areas
• Ensure all vendors follow market rules
• Deal with any unexpected issues in a timely manner
• Assist with running electrical cords and covering them for safety
• Familiarize yourself with the various vendors and their products
• Assist with setting up the misting system when it is required
• Provide vendors with booth coverage for personal breaks
• Take down signs, tent, tables for market and vendors
• Any other duties as requested by the market manager

Starting Pay: $18.50 / Hourly
