The Supervisor, Facilities Support Services, is responsible for the coordination and operational oversight of Grounds and Building Services, Switchboard, and Patient Portering services across the organization. This position has a dual reporting relationship to the Manager of Patient Food Services, Clinical Nutrition, Switchboard & Portering, and the Manager of Building, Parking, Grounds & Protective Services.
The Supervisor oversees staff and contracted services, ensuring that hospital grounds and offsite leased properties are maintained in a safe, functional, and compliant manner. With the Manager, this role ensures the efficient operation of the hospital’s 24/7 switchboard and the effective coordination of patient and equipment transport services across the organization. The Supervisor exercises independent judgment in day-to-day operations, including staff supervision, issue resolution, and adherence to organizational and regulatory standards. The role also has accountability for the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of staff education programs, including orientation, e-learning, and departmental training resources.
QUALIFICATIONS- Diploma in Business Administration, Facilities Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Health and Safety for Leaders/Supervisors certification
- Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare, facilities, or support services environment, including demonstrated experience coordinating contractors and managing service delivery
- Experience coordinating contractors and/or facility-related services
- Knowledge of switchboard/telecommunications operations and/or patient transport services is considered an asset
- Familiarity with collective agreements (e.g., CUPE), including scheduling in a unionized environment
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and healthcare safety standards
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong customer service focus and the ability to collaborate across departments and motivate others
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and facilities/work order systems
- Well-developed team-building, conflict management, and consensus-building skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining strong attendance and performance standards
- Demonstrated commitment to personal safety and the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Ability to support and contribute to a culture of safety and the prevention of adverse health events
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset
