We are a private school in Toronto seeking a part-time tutor to support a Grade 8 student. The focus of this role is to build the student’s interest and confidence in English through engaging lessons based on Social Science topics (mainly History & Geography) aligned with the Ontario curriculum.
The ideal candidate is creative, energetic, and able to design interactive lessons while strengthening the student’s vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver engaging 1:1 online lessons for a Grade 8 ESL student
- Design lesson plans and provide a structured course outline based on student needs
- Use History and Geography topics as a foundation to teach English
- Incorporate current events and real-world topics to enhance engagement
- Support development of:
- English vocabulary
- Grammar and sentence structure
- Reading comprehension and discussion skills
- Adapt teaching strategies to suit the student’s learning pace and interests
Qualifications- OCT certified (preferred) or working towards certification
- 1–2 years of teaching or tutoring experience (middle school level preferred)

- Strong command of English (spoken and written)
- Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum (middle school)
- Experience with online teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom, Voov, Google Meet)
- Experience in ESL or content-based language teaching is an asset
- Ability to independently design curriculum and course structure
- Passionate, patient, and able to create a fun and engaging learning environment
Schedule- 1–2 sessions per week
- Monday or Tuesday, 8:00–9:00 AM (EST)
Compensation- $25–$35/hour, based on experience
