This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Payroll professional who is looking to take ownership of payroll operations and develop into a Payroll Lead or future management role.
Position SummaryThe Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a growing Canadian workforce while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation.
The successful candidate will work closely with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers to manage payroll administration, employee benefits, tax reporting, and regulatory compliance. Experience supporting large employee populations and handling complex payroll scenarios is highly desirable.

Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll Administration- Process bi-weekly and/or semi-monthly payroll accurately and on time
- Ensure payroll calculations are accurate, including:
- Salaries
- Overtime
- Bonuses
- Vacation pay
- Statutory holiday pay
- Retroactive adjustments
- Maintain payroll records and employee information
Tax & Compliance- Ensure compliance with Canadian payroll legislation and regulations
- Administer:
- Income Tax
- CPP
- EI
- Taxable Benefits
- Prepare and reconcile payroll reports
- Support year-end activities, including:
- T4 preparation
- RL-1 (if applicable)
- Year-end reconciliations
Benefits Administration- Coordinate employee benefits administration
- Process benefit deductions and adjustments
- Liaise with benefit providers when necessary
Expatriate & International Payroll Support- Support payroll administration for expatriate or internationally assigned employees
- Coordinate cross-border payroll matters where applicable
- Assist with complex payroll calculations involving multiple jurisdictions
- Work with HR and Finance to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
Payroll Controls & Process Improvement- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiency
- Support payroll system enhancements and automation initiatives
- Assist in developing payroll policies and standard operating procedures
- Participate in payroll audits and internal control initiatives
Cross-functional Collaboration- Partner with HR, Finance, and business leaders to resolve payroll-related issues
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and promptly
- Support organizational growth and future payroll team development
QualificationsRequired- 3-5 years of payroll experience in Canada
- Experience processing payroll for a medium or large employee population
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, including:
- Salary administration
- Payroll taxes
- CPP
- EI
- Employee benefits
- Payroll compliance
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred- Experience with Expatriate or International Assignment Payroll
- Experience managing complex payroll calculations involving multiple jurisdictions
- Experience in manufacturing, automotive, or multinational organizations
- Experience with payroll systems such as:
- ADP
- Workday
- Ceridian Dayforce
- SAP
- Oracle
- UKG
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or other payroll certification is considered an asset
