Personal Support Worker is responsible for providing support to three high functioning adult males with developmental disabilities. They will assist in enabling the clients to develop the skills to fulfil their goals and objectives and be valued, contributing members of the community.
Duties and Responsibilities (Personal Support Worker & Team Lead Roles)- Act in the best interest of the clients and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Help clients identify community resources (e.g. recreational clubs, libraries, community centres, etc.) they would like to use, and support them in participating meaningfully in activities that they are interested in
- Ensure the individuals are treated with dignity and respect, and actively promote inclusive practices
- Maintain daily communication logs as required
- Administer medication
- Provide transportation to community areas, programs and employment
- Ensure clients receive daily physical activity outside of the home
- Maintain ongoing contact with the family through proactive communication strategies
- Provide daily reminders about personal hygiene
- Assist clients with daily household cleaning and clients laundry
- assist with meal prep
Qualifications- Experience supporting adults with a developmental disabilities
- Patience, time management skills and the ability to work independently
- Good communication skills
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle with valid insurance, coverage of at least $2,000,000 liability
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Training in Abuse Reporting and Response Protocol, as well as Restrictive Practices
- A current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Experience working with PDD-funded services and/or Family Managed Services (FMS)
- A highly developed sense of ethics and professionalism
- An understanding of advocacy; in theory and practice
- Physical ability/conditioning, to support an active schedule
- Belief in the right for all people to belong, participate, and contribute to their community
- The ability to view an individual from a strength versus deficit-based standpoint
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities
- The ability to manage confidential and/or sensitive information
- A solid understanding of challenges facing adults with disabilities
Working conditionsWork will occur both in community spaces and within the home.
Additional InformationRange of Hourly Rate of Pay =starting at $19. per hour
Paid mileage at $0.50/km
Sleep Shift = $17.25
