POSITION: Prevention and Support Worker
LOCATION: Maple Ridge, BC
Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services is currently looking for a temp part-time Prevention and Support Worker for Alisa’s Wish Child & Youth Advocacy Centre. Alisa’s Wish operates as a child and youth advocacy centre and sexual assault program, supported by a dedicated team of multidisciplinary professionals and volunteers committed to ensuring the safety and resilience of children and youth. This position will focus on prevention and education initiatives targeting youth, parents, and caregivers to enhance child and youth safety. The successful candidate must be flexible with scheduling, including the ability to work evenings and weekends.
ACCOUNTABILITIES- Implements the goals and vision of the Child Advocacy Centre (CAC), ensuring adherence to its mission, vision, and values.
- Develops, presents, and facilitates group and public presentations for community partners.
- Establishes and maintains community connections for the CAC through 1:1 meetings, resource provision, organization, mentoring, and role-modeling of the CAC’s vision and priorities.
- Represents and promotes the Child Advocacy Centre at community events and explores additional opportunities for CAC promotion.
- Facilitates the Youth Advisory Committee for Alisa’s Wish initiative.
- Provides support as backup for the CYAC Advocate during their absence.
- Reviews CVAP applications and conducts follow-up meetings with clients.
- Provides monthly updates and reports at CAC committee meetings.
- Ensures completion of required documentation and collects data for program analysis.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training and Experience- Minimum of a two-year diploma or equivalent education in the human services field, along with a minimum of one year of related experience working with, and presenting to, victim populations such as youth/children’s services.
- Training and practical experience in Trauma-Informed Practice.
Additional Requirements:- Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
- Acceptable Driver’s Abstract (provided annually).
- Position requires Union Membership.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES- Familiarity with the communities of Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie First Nations, Kwantlen First Nations, along with local community resources.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system, child welfare matters and victim services support issues.
- Strong community development perspective.
- Strong research skills accompanied by the ability to interpret data.
- Excellent facilitation skills and the ability/desire to engage others in dialogue.
- Experience working with committees.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing skills and the ability to easily begin conversations.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent computer and technical skills.
- Ability to be flexible in terms of schedule, including evenings and weekends.
