Job OverviewWe are seeking a Project Accountant to join our finance team and take ownership of the financial and administrative functions for active construction projects.
In this role, you will support project operations by managing accounts receivable, subcontractor records, payroll processing, equipment and time entry, accounts payable, and month‑end reporting. You will work closely with project managers and field teams to ensure financial data is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
This position requires strong attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and the ability to adapt quickly while supporting multiple projects, clients, and work environments.
Work LocationThe primary work location is our office in Spruce Grove, Alberta. From time to time, travel to active project sites may be required to support field operations.
Compensation is structured to reflect both office‑based and site‑based work. Applicable site allowances are provided when working at project locations.
Responsibilities- Record field data entry, including time entry, equipment and asset records, cost tracking, and reconciliation.
- Process daily client tickets: reconcile field quantities, gather supporting backup, and enter into client systems.
- Manage subcontracts: bill clients, process accounts payable payments, and ensure complete documentation.
- Support Accounts Payable, including resolving items in the AP queue and reviewing cost coding compliance.
- Coordinate accounts receivable: ensure accurate, timely billing and invoice submission.
- Prepare and contribute to month-end project reporting and financial close processes.
- Collaborate with project teams to verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
Experience- 1+ years of related project accounting experience within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and financial applications including large ERP systems (Viewpoint experience is an asset).
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, SUMIFS, and LOOKUP functions.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with the capacity to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in billing summations and financial reconciliations.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent customer service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
