Structural Design Engineer – Building Systems / Product Design
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000
We’re hiring a Structural Design Engineer to join a growing, R&D-driven environment focused on custom outdoor structures across North America. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product design, and real-world construction—where concepts become engineered systems that actually get built.
If you enjoy solving real-world problems, working closely with production teams, and designing structures that perform in harsh climates, this is a high-impact opportunity.
About the CompanyA well-established manufacturer of premium custom outdoor living structures, including screen rooms, louvered roofs, and enclosures for residential and commercial applications. With over 30 years of craftsmanship and a reputation for durable, climate-ready designs, the company is expanding rapidly across Canada and the U.S.
What You’ll Be DoingStructural Design & Analysis- Perform structural modeling and analysis for aluminum framing systems and outdoor structures
- Analyze wind loads, snow loads, live loads, and connection points
- Validate designs for safety, performance, and code compliance
Engineering Documentation & Permitting- Prepare structural calculations and engineering packages
- Support permitting processes and documentation requirements
- Collaborate with licensed engineers (P.Eng / P.E.) for stamping when required
Design Translation- Review architectural drawings and site plans
- Translate concepts into buildable structural systems
- Partner with drafting teams to develop detailed drawings
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Work closely with:
- Sales (early-stage concepts)
- Drafting (design accuracy)
- Production (manufacturability)
- Solve real-world challenges such as:
- Fabrication constraints
- Structural connection issues
- Field installation limitations
Product Development (R&D)- Contribute to new product design and system improvements
- Test and validate structural performance
- Optimize materials, cost, and manufacturability
Site Exposure- Occasionally visit job sites to assess conditions, troubleshoot issues, and validate designs
What You Bring3–5+ years of experience in:
- Structural engineering
- Product design engineering
- Building systems or construction engineering
Hands-on experience with:
- Structural analysis
- CAD/design tools
- Real-world, buildable structures
Strong understanding of:
- Building codes
- Permitting processes
- Structural performance requirements
Technical Skills- Structural analysis tools (SAP2000, STAAD, RISA, or similar)
- CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, or similar)
Education & CredentialsDegree in:
- Civil Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering (with structural focus)
EIT designation strongly preferred
P.Eng / P.E. considered an asset (not required)
What Sets You Apart- You think practically: “Will this actually work in the field?”
- You understand both design and fabrication constraints
- You’re detail-oriented with strong calculation accuracy
- You enjoy solving complex structural challenges
- You collaborate well with cross-functional teams
What This Role Is NOT- Not a purely consulting or theoretical engineering role
- Not isolated design work with no production exposure
This is a hands-on, applied engineering role where your work gets built.
Why This Role Stands Out- Work on real, custom structures from concept to installation
- Strong collaboration across engineering, drafting, and production
- Opportunity to contribute to product development and innovation
- Growing company with expansion across North America
- High-impact role with visible results in the field
