Responsibilities- Operate a waterjet machine to precision-cut samples for metallurgical and quality testing.
- Perform heat treatment of samples following specific automotive technical protocols.
- Execute mounting and polishing of pucks to prepare them for microscopic or hardness evaluation.
- Conduct tensile testing to determine the physical properties of materials and ensure they meet safety specifications.
- Perform consistent 5S activities to ensure the lab remains clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Accurately perform data entry of test results into the quality management system.
- Measure parts using precision instruments such as Vernier calipers and micrometers.
- Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to ensure parts meet specific engineering requirements.
- Manage the physical demands of the lab, including lifting up to 55 lbs. to refill abrasive hoppers for the waterjet.
Qualifications- Technical background or education in a related field (Mechanical, Materials, or Quality).
- Must be able to lift at least 55 lbs. regularly.
- Flexibility to work the night shift (11 pm – 7 am starting Sunday night).
- Flexibility to work a bi-weekly rotation between days (7 am – 3 pm) and afternoons (3 pm – 11 pm).
- Commitment to a 2-week initial training period on day/afternoon rotation.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to workplace safety and quality.
- Proficiency in using precision measurement tools (Vernier calipers, micrometers).
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and part specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a technical background.
- Basic computer literacy for accurate data entry and reporting.
- Familiarity with 5S lean manufacturing principles to maintain an efficient workspace.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during night or afternoon shifts.
- Experience with waterjets, tensile testers, or polishing units is a significant bonus.
