Responsibilities

• Operate a waterjet machine to precision-cut samples for metallurgical and quality testing.
• Perform heat treatment of samples following specific automotive technical protocols.
• Execute mounting and polishing of pucks to prepare them for microscopic or hardness evaluation.
• Conduct tensile testing to determine the physical properties of materials and ensure they meet safety specifications.
• Perform consistent 5S activities to ensure the lab remains clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
• Accurately perform data entry of test results into the quality management system.
• Measure parts using precision instruments such as Vernier calipers and micrometers.
• Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to ensure parts meet specific engineering requirements.
• Manage the physical demands of the lab, including lifting up to 55 lbs. to refill abrasive hoppers for the waterjet.

Qualifications

• Technical background or education in a related field (Mechanical, Materials, or Quality).
• Must be able to lift at least 55 lbs. regularly.
• Flexibility to work the night shift (11 pm – 7 am starting Sunday night).
• Flexibility to work a bi-weekly rotation between days (7 am – 3 pm) and afternoons (3 pm – 11 pm).
• Commitment to a 2-week initial training period on day/afternoon rotation.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to workplace safety and quality.
• Proficiency in using precision measurement tools (Vernier calipers, micrometers).
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and part specifications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a technical background.
• Basic computer literacy for accurate data entry and reporting.
• Familiarity with 5S lean manufacturing principles to maintain an efficient workspace.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during night or afternoon shifts.
• Experience with waterjets, tensile testers, or polishing units is a significant bonus.
