Position SummaryThe Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in the Early Learning Centre is responsible for supporting the developmental growth and overall well-being of children aged 6 months to 4 years. Working under the direction of the General Manager, Early Learning Manager or designate, the RECE will deliver responsive, inclusive programming guided by the pedagogical framework How Does Learning Happen? and the College of Early Childhood Educators' Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. This role involves nurturing young learners, fostering strong relationships with families, and ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for all children.
Required Education & Certifications- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Updated immunization record, including TDaP, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Varicella
- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) completed within five months prior to hire
- Completion of the CCEYA Self-Test Certification
Key ResponsibilitiesChild Development & Programming- Maintain active supervision and a safe environment at all times
- Plan and implement emergent, child-led curriculum based on observations and interests
- Nurture children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development through purposeful play
- Foster self-regulation, empathy, and positive peer relationships
- Support children with individual service plans by adapting programming and providing inclusive care.
- Assist with toileting, hygiene, and self-help skills in a respectful and supportive manner
- Document children’s progress using learning stories, portfolios, and daily logs
- Apply current pedagogy including ELECT, How Does Learning Happen?, and Think, Feel, Act
Health, Safety & Environment- Maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive environment, both indoors and outdoors
- Conduct and document daily playground safety checks and sanitization routines
- Identify and report health or safety concerns directly to the Early Learning Manager
- Complete laundry and classroom housekeeping tasks as part of daily duties and sanitary policies
- Adhere to all Health Unit, CCEYA, and organizational policies and procedures
Family & Community Engagement- Build trusting, collaborative relationships with families, promoting engagement and communication
- Embrace the diversity of the ELA community and foster a sense of belonging within the classroom
- Collaborate with outreach agencies and community partners (e.g., CMHA, KidsAbility, Resource Consultants)
Team Collaboration & Professionalism- Model and promote positive behaviour, inclusive communication, and respectful interactions
- Actively participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities
- Maintain the organization of classroom materials and learning resources
- Uphold confidentiality and the ethical standards of the CECE
