Summary of Duties, but not limited to:- Shows initiative in organizing the daily activities of the Centre for the provision of quality patient care.
- Using a holistic and integrated approach, the RN works with members of the inter-professional team, patients and their families to provide comprehensive care.
- Provision of patient care including assessing, planning and implementing treatment, and evaluating its effectiveness.
- Utilizes innovative approaches to patient education during an in-depth initial session and ongoing follow-up and support. Improves patient outcomes by using evidenced-based approaches for self-management; and motivational communication to assist patients to make realistic short and long term goals.
- Continuously seeks to improve care processes and patient outcomes by improving safety and quality through the integration and evaluation of evidence, nursing theory, professional standards, and legislative requirements.
- Disseminates comprehensive nursing knowledge and skill using adult learning principles while educating colleagues, nursing students, and nurses from the dermatology community. Also participates in inter-professional teaching/learning of medical students (clerks, residents, fellows, and elective students) and health discipline students.
- Responds to and triages patient phone calls and gives advice as appropriate. Uses critical thinking skills to respond to patient problems and concerns and those health issues that arise in the absence of the physician.
- Works collaboratively with the Women’s College Hospital (WCH) inter-professional team of RNs, physicians, and administrative assistants to coordinate care including tests, consults, completion of forms, and procedures and facilitates necessary follow-up as needed.
- Performs a variety of medical procedures such as: delivery of phototherapy treatment, injections, full body skin checks, removal of sutures, specimen collection, and assisting with biopsies.
- Responsible for discharge letters to referring physicians.
- Liaises with physicians, nurses, and other staff both within WCH and in other health care settings to ensure timeliness of procedures and continuity of patient care.
- Initiates, leads, and participates in activities that are organized at PERC such as public health forums, research, production of patient educational materials, etc.
