Senior Azure Cloud DevOps Specialist
Location: Ottawa (Hybrid, 3 days in office, 2 days work from home)
Schedule: Core hours are 9:30am–3pm local time (somehow flexible) can start as early as 7:30
Maximum Pay Rate: $89.30/hour
Clearance Requirement: Secret, CGP, or Trade clearance;
Contract Length: 1 year contract (potential for extension or converted to permanent)
Position SummaryThe Senior Azure DevOps will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing modern DevOps processes for applications deployed in the Microsoft Azure cloud environment. The successful candidate will have expertise in Azure, container orchestration (Kubernetes or OpenShift), and Python development. This position involves close collaboration with development and operations teams to ensure robust, secure, and automated CI/CD pipelines, efficient release management, and rapid resolution of live issues, contributing to the organization’s digital transformation and operational excellence.
Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility- Design, implement, and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for applications in the Microsoft Azure cloud.
- Oversee and manage application deployments, ensuring timely and reliable releases to development, testing, and production environments.
- Configure, operate, and optimize container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift.
- Collaborate with software developers and IT teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve build, deployment, and operational issues.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and monitoring using infrastructure-as-code and scripting (with a strong emphasis on Python).
- Ensure cloud environments follow best practices in security, compliance, scalability, and cost optimization.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures, deployment processes, and troubleshooting guides.
- Continuously monitor system performance and implement enhancements to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership and knowledge sharing on DevOps, Azure cloud technologies, and automation tools within the team.
Minimum Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, LanguageSkills & Technical/Specialized Knowledge:- Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud services and deployments
- Proficient with CI/CD tools and best practices (Gitlab, SAST, DAST, Git, etc.)
- Hands-on experience managing and troubleshooting Kubernetes or OpenShift clusters
- Advanced scripting and automation skills, particularly in Python
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (such as Terragrunt, Terraform, or Ansible)
- Solid understanding of cloud security, networking, and monitoring
Experience:- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in DevOps or cloud engineering roles, with significant Azure cloud exposure
- Proven track record of building and supporting CI/CD pipelines in enterprise environments
- Experience in deploying and managing containerized applications at scale
Education:- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent work experience
Certifications (preferred):- Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or related Azure certifications
- Certifications in Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), OpenShift, or DevOps tools are an advantage
Language:- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator Associate, or other advanced Azure certifications
- Certification in Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), Red Hat OpenShift, or similar container technologies
- Experience deploying and configuring Palo Alto Next-Generation Firewalls in Azure
