Position OverviewWe are looking for a skilled Laser Programmer / Manufacturing Technologist with a strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication and press brake operations.
This role is responsible for taking parts from design through to production, with a focus on efficient nesting, accurate flat patterns, and proper forming strategy.
This position has direct impact on laser runtime, nesting efficiency, and overall shop productivity.
Key Responsibilities- Create flat patterns and production-ready drawings from STEP files
- Generate and optimize laser nests for maximum efficiency
- Program laser cutting operations ( Amada VPSS experience preferred)
- Develop bend sequences and support press brake setup
- Select appropriate tooling and understand bend allowances and K-factors
- Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Prepare DXFs and support quoting and job setup
- Work closely with production to ensure smooth workflow
- Identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve efficiency
RequirementsStrong understanding of sheet metal fabrication and press brake operations
Experience with Fusion 360 (or similar CAD/CAM software)
Ability to create accurate flat patterns and manufacturing drawings
Experience with laser nesting and programming
Solid understanding of:
- Bend allowances and K-factors
- Tooling selection (V-dies, punches, radii)
- Forming limitations and best practices
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Assets- Experience with Amada machines / VPSS
- Experience with Amada press brakes (EGB or similar)
- Experience in a job shop or production environment
- Familiarity with ERP or production tracking systems
