GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Senior Manager Child Care (Senior Manager) reports directly to the VP Child Care Services (VP) and is responsible for overseeing and/or operating the management of assigned child care centres operated by The Neighbourhood Group Community Services (TNGCS) within the Greater Toronto Area. The incumbent will oversee the management of approximately 500 + licensed spaces each and must ensure that the assigned child care centre(s) operate in accordance with all legislative and regulatory requirements and follows TNGCS’s policies and processes. This involves assisting with planning, implementing, and supervising the provision of care across chosen sites to ensure programming is age-appropriate and meets the developmental needs of children.
The Senior Manager works collaboratively with the VP and other Senior Managers while potentially overseeing multiple Managers at various child care sites. It is an expectation that the Senior Manager will stay fully informed of all operations of their assigned high caliber child care centre locations and ensure they are kept up to date with any changes. The Senior Manager models professionalism and is the escalation point for all centre specific matters that cannot be resolved whether it be for staff or parents. The incumbent creates a positive atmosphere for staff, children, parents, Funders, Toronto Public Health and from time to time with the media. The Senior Manager supports TNGCS’s focus on providing high quality, affordable child care for parents and their children.
MAJOR DUTIES:- Responsible for ensuring that the assigned child care centre site(s) deliver high-quality services in accordance with the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA), Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT), Early Learning and Care assessment for Quality Improvement, How Does Learning Happen (HDLH), and TNGCS policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring that the assigned child care site(s) meet all relevant legislative requirements with 100% compliance, including Children and Family Services / licensing, Public Health Department, Fire Department, Municipal by-laws, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Labour Relations / Employment Standards, Freedom of Information and Privacy Act.
- Oversee staffing complements at the assigned child care centre location(s) in conjunction with the hiring manager, HR, and the VP. Ensure recruitment, orientation, and training of management at the sites. May need to provide coverage at locations in the absence of Managers.
- Ensure assigned child care centre(s) are delivering safe, age-appropriate programming to meet the physical, social-emotional, and cognitive needs of each child.
- Oversee staff development at assigned child care site(s) through on-going training, performance appraisals, discipline, and consistent leadership. Foster a positive team environment. Lead by example.
- Motivate and lead Managers and staff.
- Support Manager(s) and program staff to meet annual goals and ensure they are carried out. Provide data to assist them to evaluate progress.
- Escalation point for complaints by parents, staff, community partners. Resolve complaints in a professional manner that maintains positive relations through excellence in customer service.
