About the role

The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will own the reliability and operational performance of large-scale distributed systems and data infrastructure. The role focuses on production streaming and Kubernetes workloads, repeatable infrastructure practices, scalability and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Deliver streaming and data infrastructure for product initiatives, including Redpanda/Kafka and Flink capabilities.
• Scale streaming and Kubernetes workloads, address throughput and recovery bottlenecks, and define service-level indicators.
• Reduce recurring incidents, manual interventions and routine maintenance through automation, actionable alerts, tested recovery procedures and vulnerability remediation.
• Connect Redpanda topic traffic, Flink processing and BigQuery usage to consuming teams and services to improve cost accountability.
• Build reusable infrastructure modules, deployment workflows and documentation for teams to provision and operate AWS and Kubernetes resources.
• Improve visibility into infrastructure consumers, service adoption, reliability, costs and maintenance effort.

Requirements

• Experience operating large-scale distributed systems and scalable data processing infrastructure in production.
• Production experience with Kafka or compatible streaming platforms such as Redpanda, including capacity planning, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Experience provisioning and managing production infrastructure with Terraform and repeatable, reviewed, version-controlled changes.
• Experience deploying, operating and troubleshooting production Kubernetes workloads.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience building reusable infrastructure modules, self-service capabilities and CI/CD workflows.
• Production experience operating Apache Flink pipelines and managing monitoring, failures and recovery.
• Production experience with AWS Aurora/RDS, including provisioning, backups, recovery, failover, rightsizing and cost optimization.
• Advanced experience with one or more of Apache Flink, Redpanda/Kafka, Iceberg, PostgreSQL, Airflow or Trino.
• Experience debugging and writing production-quality Java and/or Go code.
• Contributions to open-source infrastructure or data projects.

Work arrangement

Chainlink Labs roles are global and remote-based. Employees are asked to overlap some working hours with Eastern Standard Time where possible.
