SPECIALIZED TEACHER
Parkland School is a designated special education independent school that supports approximately 25 students, ranging in age from 6 to 19. It is a setting tailored to meet the needs of children with significant physical, medical and developmental disabilities. We are currently seeking a dynamic educator to join our team. Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
Creating a structured, safe and engaging learning environment that supports diverse and complex learning needs. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing student-centered programming, through IPP’s and modifying the curriculum. A focus on building strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and families, and on showing effective leadership and classroom‑management techniques when guiding specialized student aides will be highly valued.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
flexibility, patience, a positive solution focussed approach, strong communication and interpersonal skills, effective conflict resolution, team leadership and a willingness to assist with personal care. Supporting meaningful inclusion opportunities for students within the school and broader community is vital for this role.
Education and experience:
You must hold interim or permanent certification from Alberta Education. Additional course work or related experience in teaching students with special needs is highly desirable. Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous tradition and cultural ways is an asset.
Hours of Work:
35 Hours/Week: Monday – Friday, 8:30am 4:00pm
Wage:
$31.52 - $34.71 per hour
