The PositionWe’re looking for a Staff Project Lead – Satellite Mission Engineering, at our Richmond office, to be a part of the next generation of satellite missions.
As the lead for the project Engineering team, the individual will provide technical leadership for end-to-end satellite mission engineering through the lifecycle of the project, working with internal stakeholders and suppliers to define requirements, manage interfaces, drive trade studies and technical decisions, and ensure integration and test readiness through launch and early operations. Success in this role is demonstrated by delivering mission milestones on schedule, proactively retiring cross-functional risks, and maintaining alignment to the approved technical baseline.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Staff Project Lead – Satellite Mission Engineering, you may have a range of responsibilities that include:
- Provides technical leadership to a multi-disciplined mission team and suite of suppliers in collaboration with the Project Manager and Systems Technical Lead
- Interfaces with customers and subcontractors, reporting status, resolving issues, and negotiating changes in technical scope
- Identifies, manages and mitigates risks across the mission
- Monitors and controls cost, schedule and technical baselines
- Monitor and defines the workforce loading and assignments required through the lifecyle of the project
- Defines and enforces an operating system for the mission engineering team to effectively communicate, collaborate and solve problems (e.g. issue tracking and resolution, work package management, etc.)
- Supports technical and management reviews at all levels of assembly
- Supports in various levels of spacecraft, ground system and mission integration, as well as initial on-orbit operations
- Coordinates and brings together the right stakeholders to find optimal solutions to both technical and non-technical problems
- Develops team members through mentoring and coaching
Required Experience- Degree or advanced degree in engineering, or a combination of related education and experience
- At least 12 years' experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility in engineering of complex, mission critical systems
- Experience in managing sub-contractors and suppliers
- Experience managing geographically distributed and multi-disciplined teams
- Experience as a team leader
- Experience in system integration of a complex system composed of multiple subsystems
