Contract STEM Specialist – Indigenous Education
14-month contract starting April 25, 2026
Science North is committed to fostering, and engaging in, inclusive STEM education that integrates diverse perspectives. As part of this mission, Science North is seeking a dynamic and innovative Contract STEM Specialist – Indigenous Education to design and develop impactful Indigenous school programs for students across Northern Ontario.
The successful applicant will develop and integrate Indigenous perspectives into Science North's school programs and outreach initiatives. Collaborating with the STEM Education team, this role will update existing programs, contribute to content development, and deliver staff training to braid Indigenous knowledge and perspectives through the many programs Science North offers to schools.
Key Responsibilities- Develop Indigenous Content: Develop Indigenous content for use in on-site school programs and outreach programs
- Review and Update Programming: Work with members of the STEM Education team to review existing programs and update them with Indigenous content where appropriate
- Indigenous Program Training: Provide ongoing training and coaching to staff for the delivery of all Indigenous content, including for on-site school programs and outreach programs
- Education Program Support: Support the education team with culturally appropriate development related to SHSM, Teacher Workshops, the All-Access Pass, along with other education initiatives
- Program Delivery: Be familiar with current school programs to be able to support occasional school program delivery in the science-center or on the road
Qualifications and Skills- Lived experience and/or deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ways of knowing
- Experience in curriculum develop or STEM programming, particularly in Indigenous contexts
- Strong ability to collaborate with Indigenous communities, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with experience delivering educational content
- Experience in land-based learning or hands-on experiential education is an asset
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a wide variety of individuals
- Fluency in English required. Fluency in French will be considered an asset

Compensation Highlights:- 14-month contract opportunity (maternity leave replacement)
- Competitive salary range $47,300 to $56,000 per year, based on experience
