Job Description:CecilKids! Summer Day Camp offers children ages 5 to12 the opportunity to learn, stay healthy, make new friends, try new activities, and have fun! Our camp provides a safe, fun and active environment in which children can develop new skills, self-esteem and friendships. Campers will enjoy daily activities at the Cecil Community Centre, as well as weekly visits to various places of interest throughout the city. Activities vary from week to week (Arts & Crafts, Group Games, Sports, Movies and Swimming) and are designed to be age appropriate.
The Summer Day Camp Support Counsellor will report to the Summer Day Camp Coordinator. We are seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join our team as Camp Counselors. As a Summer Day Camp Support Counsellor, you will have the opportunity to educate and engage with children in a fun and supportive camp environment. Summer Day Camp Support Counsellors main responsibilities will be to support campers that require additional support to ensure they are integrated into a camper group and are able to positively participate no matter their ability level. Summer Day Camp Support Counsellor will support the Summer Program Coordinator and responsibilities of Camp Counsellors.
Camp Counsellor Responsibilities:- Provide 1:1 camper support and work collaboratively within the camp team to provide inclusive programming for campers with developmental and behavioral needs
- Assist Summer Program Coordinator with responsibilities
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times
- Provide guidance and support to campers in their personal growth and development
- Cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment.
- Reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to parents and camp staff.
- Collaborate with other camp staff to create a memorable camp experience for all participants
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding camper progress and any concerns
- Memorizing all emergency procedures and enforcing camp rules.
Camp Counsellor Requirements:- Minimum 1 year experience working in a child-oriented program with a focus on children with disability or additional needs
- Post-secondary education preferred (Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker, and/or training in the fields of psychology and experience working with children with differing abilities and diagnosis)
- Energetic, patient, and enthusiastic attitude
- CPR and First Aid certification (Required)
- Ability to pass a background check (Required)
Hours and Wages:35 hours per week; $19.20 per hour. This is a 9 week contract (June 29 to August 28, 2025) Applicants should be 16-30 years old and eligible to work in Canada.
