SUMS Place Society is a christian faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, food insecurity, and complex social challenges in Surrey. Through food distribution, housing support, outreach, and community programs, SUMS Place works to restore hope, dignity, and stability to those in need.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Summer Student to support the Marketing & Communications department by assisting with content creation, event promotion, social media scheduling, and general marketing support. This position helps ensure consistent, timely, and effective communication of SUMS’ mission and programs across various platforms.
Responsibilities:- Assist with creating, editing, and scheduling social media content using tools like Canva, Meta Business Suite, and Hootsuite
- Format and schedule newsletters, donor updates, and internal communications through donor/marketing platforms.
- Support in the development and distribution of promotional materials for campaigns and events
- Organize and catalog digital media assets (photos, videos, etc.)
- Provide on-site marketing support at community events when required
- Support administrative tasks and perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:- Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution or recently graduated.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Compassionate and respectful attitude towards vulnerable populations.
- Familiarity with general office procedures and computer applications.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Schedule:Monday-Friday 8am-3pm
The summer student internship is a temporary position for 8 weeks and requires applicants to meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Below 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Note: This position may involve interacting with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, or substance use challenges. Sensitivity and non-judgmental attitudes are essential for successful engagement.This position is also subject to a vulnerable sector criminal record check.
