Job Summary:The Technical Operations Specialist role is a blend of operations technology, project management, IT support, and process improvement. This role is responsible for coordinating technology projects and providing operational support and development for core systems throughout the company, including GPS telematics software, driver devices, hardware inventory management, and more. This role bridges operations and technology — ensuring projects are delivered effectively while maintaining day-to-day system functionality.
As a small waste management company, we’re looking for someone who is hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable taking ownership of a wide range of technical tasks and projects. The ideal candidate brings hands-on project coordination experience, practical technical aptitude, and exposure to emerging technologies.
Key ResponsibilitiesFleet Technology Support- Maintain and troubleshoot fleet technology, including GPS/telematics, truck cameras, and other onboard hardware.
- Coordinate installation, replacement, and repair of equipment with vendors and internal teams.
- Monitor system performance and ensure accurate data reporting for routing, safety, and compliance.
Operations Systems & Tools- Support, develop and optimize the software and tools used by dispatch, drivers, and supervisors (routing platforms, reporting tools, surveillance system etc.).
- Assist with user setup, access issues, and basic system configuration.
- Document processes and create simple guides or training materials for staff.
- Manage technology hardware inventory across the company.
Technical Project Coordination- Lead or support small to mid‑sized technical projects such as new equipment rollouts, system upgrades, or process improvements.
- Track timelines, communicate updates, and coordinate with vendors, IT partners, and operations leadership.
- Test new tools or features and help ensure smooth adoption by the operations team.
Data & Reporting- Pull and organize operational data from fleet systems to support decision‑making.
- Create practical reports or dashboards related to route performance, equipment status, or operational metrics.
- Identify data inconsistencies and work with vendors or internal teams to resolve them.
General Technical Support- Provide on‑site troubleshooting for hardware and software issues affecting operations at all sites.
- Support basic IT needs such as printers, network connections, and user accounts when required and coordinate with external IT company for all other IT needs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between operations and external IT or technology vendors.
Qualifications & Requirements- 3+ years of experience in technical project coordination, operations technology, systems support, or a related role.
- Experience supporting operational technology systems (e.g., surveillance, telematics, communications devices) preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects across departments and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical information and work effectively with vendors or IT specialists and within a team environment.
- AI Knowledge: Working knowledge of AI concepts (e.g., automation, machine learning, computer vision, predictive analytics) and experience using AI-powered software or workflow automation tools to improve operational efficiency is considered an asset.
