The Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Telecom Support and Administrative Assistant.
The department of Information Technologies is responsible to ensure that the University community is served by reliable communications systems. This technical support position works in a team-based unit to install, maintain, and repair those systems to meet the needs of the campus.
There is a high volume of work related to data networks, telephone, voice mail, radio and paging systems, and associated infrastructure including the 30,000 node copper and fiber cable network and the 13,000-line University-owned private branch exchange (PBX). Work includes the installation of telecommunications services, including, but not limited to voice and networking services, troubleshooting cabling infrastructure, repairing cabling infrastructure, and troubleshooting devices on various telecommunications systems.
The normal shift schedule is 7-hours per day, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., usually Monday to Friday. Overtime is a possibility and callouts may occur.
This position reports to the Manager, Data Centre, Network and Voice Technology Services and Operations, and is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):- Monitor and manage the various Service Now intake queues, consulting with the Voice Services team and customer to design and vet all requests, assigning the resources as needed and schedule the work
- Ensures that installation and maintenance requirements for voice, voicemail, networking and telecom systems are met according to established University standards
- Ensures all that all requirements for recording work and billing for service are completed in a timely manner
- Propose new and innovative solutions to meet client requirements when existing technologies do not meet client needs
- Develops and documents plans to implement services for clients
- Works independently or with other Telecom staff and/or external consultants and vendors to meet established deadlines for work
- Proactively maintains telecommunications services and documents all pertinent information
- Plans maintenance activities around systems and products consistent with manufacturers`recommendations
- Recommends changes and upgrades to systems and services
- Assists with training for clients on existing and new services as required
- Coordinates the design, installation, testing and implementation of telecommunications systems with internal and external clients/vendors/manufacturers
- Maintains all documents and records needed to support the work in a manner consistent with University standards, updates as required, and ensures that information is available to those requiring it to complete work for the University
- Is a productive and willing member of the Telecom department, and supports the work of others within the department
- Pleasantly and respectfully interacts with co-workers, supervisor, and members of the University community, and others as required
- Ensures regular work attendance, timely reporting for start of shift, and that personal attire and hygiene are appropriate for the campus environment
- Manages own time effectively to accomplish tasks
- Ensures that equipment, work space, tools and systems supplied by the University are used for the purposes supplied, are maintained in good order and that the costs of use are controlled
