Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) serves a population of approximately 35,000 residents in the second fastest growing township in Ontario. The hospital’s community includes the Town of Strathroy, a bustling urban centre of 12,500 with a vibrant downtown area of quaint shops, restaurants and services. Surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, Strathroy is home to many London and Sarnia commuters and offers small town life amenities: a pleasant walk to many beautiful parks and nature trails; a strong sense of community; a mix of gracious century homes and modern housing; good schools and shopping. The hospital is only a short drive to London, Sarnia and the beautiful beaches of Lake Huron.
SMGH is a full-service family-centred community hospital providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic and ambulatory services, as well as both primary and secondary care.
The hospital operates 54 acute care beds along with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and outpatient services. Medical staffing includes a number of active local family physicians, internists, surgeons and specialists. Total staffing for the hospital, including full-time and part-time staff is approximately 500.
Position SummaryReporting to the Vice President of Clinical Services, the Supply Chain Coordinator, Clinical Services, is responsible to maintain a safe logical environment and flow of supplies that ensures the delivery of quality patient care at optimal costing. The role includes management, accessibility, organization, coordination and procurement of equipment, instruments and supplies, and works in collaboration with both clinical and corporate services leaders and stakeholders including but not limited to Material Management, MDRD and Surgical Services, Biomedical, Facilities and Finance and Decision Support. Will work in particular partnership with the Manager of Surgical Services.
Job Duties:Supply Chain and Logistics
- Manage warehouse and direct purchases, loaner equipment, consignment and internal warehouse (stores) inventories pertaining to Surgical Services
- Maintain Surgical Services inventory levels in conjunction with clinical needs, ensuring all products are available to allow for quality patient care and optimal surgical outcomes
- Promptly identify, communicate, investigate and resolve inventory supply issues such as backorders, obsolete or otherwise unavailable or delayed products, needed to mitigate the impact/risk to patients
- Source, procure and obtain clinical approvals for substitute products as needed to avoid disruption to patient care
- Manage/monitor inventory management system, and liaise with supplier, IT, or other stakeholders as needed to promptly resolve any system issues
- Optimize and lead the design of inventory supply carts and associated inventory location min/par levels
- Provide support and guidance to Material Management team that are responsible for replenishing supplies
- Manage product recalls and safety occurrence reports, maintaining a database of correspondence with suppliers, Risk Management and all applicable end users
- Conduct product searches and product investigations in response to quality/risk issues
