Beyond Barriers Support Society is a community-based organization that supports adults with diverse intellectual abilities throughout the Creston Valley. Our programs focus on lifelong learning, community inclusion, recreation, and employment. We are currently seeking a motivated and reliable individual to fill a temporary role, with the potential for additional hours and longer-term opportunities.
Position Details- Position Type: Temporary full-time
- Schedule: Monday to Fridays (35hrs/wk)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Wage: As per union contract - $25.95-27.54/hr based on training
- Worksites:
- 921 Railway Blvd, Creston B.C.,
- 1022 Canyon St., Creston, B.C.,
- and/or various community locations
Key Responsibilities – Vocational CounsellorThe Vocational Counsellor will provide the individuals we serve with personalized employment support to help obtain meaningful work.
This includes supporting the participants with the following:
- Writing resumes
- Preparing for job interviews
- Building job-readiness skills
- Developing Job-search strategies
- Acquiring skills or training for sustainable employment
The Vocational Counsellor will also report outcomes and measures for the employment program as per CLBC guidelines
Additional responsibilities:- Provide support for individuals with developmental disabilities
- Arrange and participate in group activities
- Assist with community integration and participation in meaningful activities
- Develop and implement individualized programs
- Write and maintain log notes, goals and individual service plans
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging environment
Qualifications- CLBC Employment (ie: Vocational Counsellor) training
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (asset)
- Knowledge or experience with dementia/Alzheimer’s (asset)
- Ability to design and deliver individualized programs and implementing person-centered supports
- Valid B.C. driver’s license with clean abstract and proof of insurance
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (reimbursed by employer)
- Successful completion of a criminal record check (reimbursed by employer)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills including word processing and data entry in spreadsheets
Additional Information- Training will be arranged by the Executive Director and provided by the permanent staff
- This position requires union membership
