The Canadian Automotive Museum is seeking two dynamic and enthusiastic Visitor Services Assistants for the summer season. This position focuses on delivering high-quality visitor experiences, leading guided tours, supporting museum operations, and assisting with digital engagement and collections work. The successful candidates will gain hands-on experience in a professional museum environment while developing valuable public-facing and transferable skills.
About the Canadian Automotive MuseumLocated in downtown Oshawa, the Canadian Automotive Museum is housed in a former 1920s car dealership and showcases one of the world’s finest collections of Canadian-built automobiles. The museum tells the story of Canada’s automotive heritage through engaging exhibitions, educational programming, and community events. Oshawa is part of the Durham Region, easily accessible by public transit from Toronto, and offers a vibrant cultural scene, waterfront trails, festivals, and nearby attractions.
Duties and Responsibilities- Greet and assist visitors, respond to inquiries in English and, where possible, French, and provide engaging daily guided tours of the museum galleries.
- Support front-desk operations, including ticket sales, visitor orientation, and gift shop transactions, and encourage visitor feedback and positive online reviews.
- Assist with museum events, including the annual Members’ Park & Picnic fundraiser in June.
- Support general museum operations through light cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- During quieter periods, help catalogue and digitize archival advertising materials and contribute to updating the museum’s website and social media channels.
- Additional museum projects may be assigned as needed.
Eligibility (Young Canada Works)- Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have refugee status in Canada;
- be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number;
- be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; and
- be a high school, college, CEGEP, or university student.
Qualifications- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills are required.
- Preference will be given to students studying museum studies, history, education, tourism, business, cultural studies, automotive engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in a not-for-profit or customer service environment is an asset.
- French language skills are preferred but not required.
- An interest in Canadian history or historic motorized vehicles is encouraged.
- Candidates should be comfortable using computers, web-based platforms, and social media.
