DescriptionAs an Audio Programmer, you will be the primary bridge between gameplay systems and the immersive sonic experience of our world. You will collaborate closely with audio designers, animators, and environment artists to ensure every sound, from the impact of combat to the subtle ambience of a high-fidelity environment, is perfectly integrated and performant. We are looking for an engineer who can build the tools and systems that empower our creative teams to deliver state-of-the-art soundscapes in Unreal Engine 5.
Responsibilities- Architect and maintain the integration between Unreal Engine 5 and Wwise, seamlessly connecting gameplay and audio.
- Develop and maintain tools and workflows that empower audio designers to implement and iterate on high-quality content.
- Support multi-language subtitles and synchronized voice-over systems through gameplay and cinematics.
- Collaborate with gameplay, AI, and animation teams to implement combat audio systems, including first person weapon firing, AI vocalizations, hit effects, and spatialized feedback.
- Work with the environment teams to create dynamic, atmospheric audio for complex, immersive 3D spaces.
- Take ownership of the overall quality and performance of audio systems, ensuring the game maintains a high bar across various scalability settings (i.e. 7.1 to headphones).
- Profile and optimize audio systems to stay within strict CPU and memory budgets while maximizing sonic fidelity.
Technical Requirements- Proven experience in software engineering within the games industry, with a dedicated focus on audio systems.
- Deep proficiency in C++ and hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5.
- Expert-level knowledge of Wwise and its integration into modern game engines.
- Strong understanding of what is required to support state-of-the-art audio in AAA titles, including spatialization and acoustics.
- Ability to write custom editor tools and extend engine functionality to support creative workflows.
- Experience implementing cross-disciplinary systems such as localization, lip-sync, and environmental audio.
- Expert-level debugging and performance profiling skills.
Non-Technical Requirements- Strong communication skills and the ability to act as a technical translator between gameplay engineers and creative audio designers.
- A proactive approach to identifying bottlenecks in production workflows and proposing technical solutions.
- Ability to work across disciplines, comfortably "bleeding over" into core tech or gameplay systems when necessary to achieve the best results.
- A systematic, detail-oriented approach to maintaining audio quality and system stability.
Extra Credit- Experience with Atmos or other advanced spatial audio technologies.
- Knowledge of procedural audio generation or DSP programming.
- A passion for immersive, narrative-driven action games.
