Job SummaryThe Aquatics Programmer supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality aquatic programs. This includes lesson scheduling, program preparation, staff training, lifeguarding, and instruction. The role ensures that programs are safe, efficient, and customer-focused, in alignment with the JCC’s mission and values.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram & Administration- Assist with scheduling and organizing aquatic programs (e.g., Swim for Life, Swim Club, certification courses).
- Support staff training, scheduling, and in-services.
- Maintain accurate program records, progress reports, and certification paperwork.
- Monitor participation and provide feedback for program improvements.
- Assist with marketing and promotions for aquatic programs.
Instruction & Lifeguarding- Provide safe and engaging swim instruction following Lifesaving Society standards.
- Deliver Water Smart education.
- Lifeguard in accordance with National Lifeguard standards and JCC protocols.
- Ensure health, safety, and customer service excellence for all patrons.
Facility, Maintenance & Safety- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized aquatic environment.
- Conduct required pool procedures (e.g., water testing, contamination response, cleaning).
- Report maintenance or chemical issues promptly.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and provide first aid/CPR/AED care as needed.
Teamwork & Communication- Communicate effectively with staff, members, and parents.
- Attend staff meetings, in-services, and training sessions.
- Foster a positive and professional environment for staff and patrons.
- Assist with departmental and facility-wide special events.
QualificationsMandatory:- National Lifeguard (NL) certification
- Lifesaving & Swim Instructor (LSI) certification
- First Aid/CPR-C with AED
- Police Security Check with Vulnerable Sector (within 3 years)
Assets:- Additional Instructor/Trainer certifications
- Pool Operator Level 1
- Experience in swim instruction or aquatic program delivery
Working Conditions- Hot, humid, and noisy aquatic environment
- On-deck supervision for extended periods
- Lifting/moving up to 50 lbs.
- Use of pool chemicals and cleaning products
- Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
