Introduction:Prime Hires is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to join our client in support of an existing vacancy.
Salary:$50,000 + Benefits
Location:Vaughan Ontario
Business Hours:Monday-Friday; 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Can be Flex)
Job Responsibilities:- Supports the Senior Buyer and Purchasing Manager in sourcing, purchasing, and managing food products and related supplies.
- Prepares and processes purchase orders in accordance with company policies and vendor agreements.
- Monitors inventory levels and sales forecasts to prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
- Tracks orders to ensure timely delivery and resolves discrepancies related to pricing, quantities, or quality.
- Communicates with suppliers regarding product availability, pricing updates, and lead times.
- Assists in negotiating pricing and terms with vendors to support margin objectives.
- Maintains accurate purchasing records, product specifications, and supplier documentation.
- Analyzes sales trends and purchasing data to support informed buying decisions.
- Prepares regular and ad-hoc reports on product performance, margins, and inventory turnover.
- Supports seasonal and promotional planning activities.
- Ensures all products meet food safety, regulatory, and quality assurance standards.
- Coordinates with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure efficient product flow.
- Builds effective relationships with internal departments including operations, finance, marketing, and quality assurance.
- Tracks expenses and purchasing budgets to ensure alignment with financial targets.
- Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and resolve purchasing and supply chain issues.
- Thinks creatively and proposes cost-saving or process improvement initiatives.
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Experience & Qualification Requirements:Post secondary degree in Business, Supply Chain, Food Science, or related field required.
1–3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, retail, grocery, or food industry environments.
Experience working with ERP or inventory management systems preferred.
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Computer skills: Solid MS Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel (Level: Intermediate; Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP preferred).
Knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory requirements considered an asset.
