Associate Physicians are important members of the collaborative care team at Alberta Health Services (AHS), functioning as mid-level providers under the supervision and direction of physician supervisor(s) to provide acute care coverage within our hospitals. Associate Physicians are registered for supervised practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) under the Limited Practice Registry and provide clinical support under the direction of AHS Medical Staff. In this position you will deliver care to patients within the Calgary Zone NICU program within a multidisciplinary team in Newborn Critical Care.
The Section of Newborn Critical Care provides comprehensive, tertiary inpatient acute and complex care to children in Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia and SW Saskatchewan; a catchment area of approximately 2.5 million people. We run 5 NICUs across Calgary as well as the Southern Alberta Neonatal Transport Service, and a Neonatal Follow up Clinic. Within the two level 3 NICUs, we provide inpatient coverage for all neonates requiring level 3 micropremie, surgical, neurocritical and complex care in Southern Alberta. We also have three level 2 NICUs to allow for patients to be cared for near their home community as much as possible. We provide consultation and support to our regional partners across Southern Alberta. We are a dedicated and diverse group of 27 physicians who are very collaborative and enjoy mentoring and teaching. We work as part of a multidisciplinary team with Clinical and Physician Assistants, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, residents and Subspecialty Fellows. Calgary is a rapidly growing cosmopolitan city with a population of over 1.2 million people and an excellent school system. Besides the rich academic environment, Calgary offers a wide array of sporting facilities and easy access to recreational parks including Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country.
