About the Department - DISCOThe Discovery team emphasizes developing social and communication skills through visual cues, verbal prompts, and structured activities. They create a fun and positive environment with both varied and predictable weekly schedules, tailored spaces, and support for group activities. The program includes sign language and music therapy, promoting health and wellness through diverse recreational and community activities.
Required qualifications includes the following:- Diploma in human services or a related field and/or relevant experience.
- One-year relevant experience within the social service sector.
- Experience in the delivery of personal care
- Mandt or Non Violent Crisis Intervention training.
- Minimum 6 months supporting individuals with high needs and challenging behaviours
- The successful candidate needs to be able to support clients in an aquatic environment, and must have a BC Class 5 driving license and able to drive a small SUV/van size vehicle.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate candidates with international driving licenses.
Other Skills and Abilities:In this dynamic role, you will assess participants’ strengths and needs, providing skill training and creating opportunities for independence and community inclusion. You will focus on recreation, music, and creative arts within Team Discovery, while also seeking community-based social, recreational, and learning opportunities. Responsibilities include emotional support, well-being monitoring, program planning, documentation, emergency management, and ensuring health and safety standards.
